Claire Godbee is an artist living and working in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the spring of 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Statement
My paintings are the poetry I cannot write. My identity in color. How I speak to myself and to the world. My work explores and celebrates the female form and experience. Embracing feminism, inner liberation and self-discovery, my work embodies narratives about identity, interconnection, and purpose. I use color to provide a
playful aspect, to reminisce on childhood, and to reveal the magic that exists within us and throughout everyday life. My work is a reminder that we are a part of nature. I am constantly exploring my own insecurity, purpose and courage through my work. I aim to transgress body norms and acknowledge the beauty of existing, connecting and aging.
