ROSE RITUAL
Rose Ritual is a diptych that reflects on samsara, the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth described in Eastern religions.
The rose bush represents abundance and new life, while the act of cutting a rose acknowledges its inevitable passing. The gardener becomes part of this ritual, embodying her own cycles of growth and change as she tends to the repeating rhythms of the natural world.
Covered in flowers, the figure is immersed in the cycle she tends to, so fully part of the process that her body mirrors the rose bush she cares for.
I am interested in the magic of everyday objects and how they can function as ritualistic tools, carrying memory, intention, and purpose. The gardener’s gloves, shaped by earth and time, protect her hands while holding the residue of every plant they have touched. The pruning shears, essential for maintaining the health of the rose bush, become instruments of both care and transformation. I love exploring how these objects intertwine—how the gardener, the tools, and the plants form their own small ecosystem of reciprocity and support.
